Henry Brown was born in Kildare Texas and grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri. The oldest of twelve children, Henry learned at an early age the importance of sharing, caring, nurturing and responsibility. He learned from his father the principle of keeping one's Civic Rent Paid through good and kind deeds in the community and helping others.

Henry joined the Procter & Gamble Company in January 1968 with a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla. Mr. Brown's professional engineering experience with this company began with a variety of civil engineering projects in building design and construction. Through assignments of significantly increasing responsibility in engineering and project management in the USA and Europe, Mr. Brown attained the level of Director-Product Supply-Engineering. He retired from Procter & Gamble in October 1999.

Mr. Brown currently volunteers as Sr. Project Manager for the design and construction for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Museum being built on the Cincinnati riverfront. He also is Immediate Past Chair of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan YMCA and a member of the YMCA of the USA Board of Trustees. Mr. Brown serves as volunteer Project Manager for the design and construction of a new full service family branch YMCA to be built in Cincinnati's inner city. Mr. Brown was a volunteer to the Melrose Branch YMCA for a number of years on the branch Committee of Management. He held a number of offices on the committee including Committee Chair. Mr. Brown served on the Greater Cincinnati YMCA Metro Board as Vice Chairman and Chair of the Branch Operations Council for the past two years. This council is the vehicle through which the twenty-three local Branches of the YMCA make their input to larger Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan YMCA Association. Mr. Brown became Chairman of the Board of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan YMCA Association in January 2000 for a three-year term.

In addition to his work for the YMCA, Henry served as a volunteer on the Board of Directors, Seven Hills Neighborhood House, a Cincinnati community service organization for a number of years. Mr. Brown is past director and chairman of the board of Lenox Savings Bank, a local Cincinnati community bank.

Mr. Brown continues to volunteer his services to the University of Missouri-Rolla. He was recently appointed to the Alumni Association Board and Order of the Golden Shillelagh board for two-year terms. Mr. Brown also serves as Chairman of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on African American Recruitment and Retention. The University has honored Henry by electing him to the Civil Engineering Academy for outstanding professional and civic contributions, the 1999 Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award and the Order of the Golden Shillelagh. Mr. Brown was a founder of Epsilon Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha social fraternity on the campus of the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Henry and his wife, Elizabeth, live in North Avondale--one of Cincinnati's urban neighborhoods--with their son, Michael.
